Behavioral Health Programs in California: PHP & IOP at Santa Clarita Behavioral Health

When life feels heavy, getting help shouldn’t. At Santa Clarita Behavioral Health, we make it simple to start evidence-based care that actually fits your day-to-day life. Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offer the structure you need without a hospital stay—available in person at our Valencia location and virtually anywhere in California. Whether you’re working through depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar spectrum, or personality disorders, or you need addiction treatment with co-occurring (dual-diagnosis) support, we meet you where you are and help you move forward.

Levels of Care

Whether you’re working through depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar spectrum, or personality disorders, or you need addiction treatment with co-occurring (dual-diagnosis) support, we meet you where you are and help you move forward.

Think of PHP as the “high-support day program” and IOP as the “flexible step-down.”

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

PHP generally runs most of the day, several days a week. It’s great if you need more structure than weekly therapy but don’t need an overnight stay. You’ll get a mix of individual therapy, group therapy, psychiatric support/medication management when appropriate, skills training, and practical planning for life outside sessions.

Who it’s for: Individuals stepping down from inpatient care or needing a higher level of support than traditional outpatient therapy.
Structure: ~6 hours/day, 5 days/week; individual therapy, group therapy, case management; psychiatric care & medication management as needed; whole-person psychoeducation and mind–body support.
Goals: Stabilize acute symptoms, establish a strong foundation, and transition smoothly to IOP.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

IOP is a smaller daily time commitment (often a few hours per day on several days each week). It’s perfect for stepping down from PHP or stepping up from standard outpatient therapy. The focus is skill-building, symptom relief, accountability, and staying connected to a caring team while you rebuild your routines.

Who it’s for: Clients who do not need PHP intensity but still benefit from structured, consistent care and accountability.
Structure: ~3 hours/day, 3–5 days/week; flexible morning, afternoon, or evening schedules; in-person, virtual, or hybrid; individual & group therapy, case management; psychiatric care & medication management as needed.
Goals: Strengthen coping skills, improve emotional regulation, reduce symptoms, and support reintegration into daily life.

Evidence-Based & Holistic Treatments

Behavioral health, addiction, and co-occurring care—together

We treat the whole person, not just a diagnosis. That means we’re comfortable—and experienced—with co-occurring needs like substance use with anxiety, trauma with depression, or bipolar spectrum with alcohol or prescription-medication misuse. If you’re seeking addiction treatment, you won’t be shuttled between disconnected programs; instead, your plan integrates therapy, relapse-prevention skills, and psychiatric care/medication management (when indicated) so your mental health and recovery support each other.

Our clinicians draw from proven approaches such as CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR for trauma, and psychodynamic and solution-focused therapies. You’ll also experience practical, whole-person supports—mind-body tools, coping strategies for tough moments, and real-world planning for school, work, sleep, nutrition, and relationships.

  • Real-life results. You’ll practice skills in session and out in the world, then refine them with your team.

  • Clear next steps. From PHP to IOP to step-down support, you won’t wonder “what’s next?”

Why Our Approach Works

  • Whole-Person Care: Mental, emotional, and physical wellness are integrated for long-term recovery.

  • Customized Plans: Every treatment plan is individualized to history, goals, and daily realities.

  • Continuum of Care: Smooth movement between PHP → IOP → Alumni programming for ongoing support.

  • State Certification: Certified by CA DHCS

FAQs

What’s the difference between PHP and IOP?

PHP is a fuller day of treatment for extra structure. IOP is fewer hours with more flexibility. Both include therapy, groups, and access to psychiatry/medication management when clinically appropriate.

Do you treat addiction and mental health together?

Yes. We provide dual-diagnosis care so substance use and mental health are addressed in the same plan, by the same team.

Can I do this after work or school?

Often, yes. We offer daytime and evening options, plus telehealth to save on commuting time.

Do you accept insurance?

We work with many major plans and verify benefits for you before you start.
